Research

This is research for my advertisement storyboard

Title of the Advertisement: Somesuch MoneySuperMarket "That's How I Roll"

Brand/Product: MoneySuperMarket, Insurance company

Duration of the Advertisement: 1 minute

Brief Overview/Summary:

1. Target Audience

  • white men at age 18-30, who are interested in cars and Snoop Dogg

  • lower class

2. Message and Purpos

  • they used dark skinned people who seemed to be gangsters, as they are usually viewed as "cool" by people that are around the age 18-30.

  • they also used cool cars and attractive women as props

3. Meaning and Interpretation

  • what the ad meant to interpret was that even if you are an "uncool" person, you still have the ability to become cool and be seen by people if you had cool cars and you can attract women too using said cars.

4. Effectiveness

  • The MoneySuperMarket business decided to use humor as their technique to capture the audience's attention they also used Snoop Dogg as their celebrity endorsement. This youtube ad reached 96k views, but only 2.6k likes. I believe this is pretty good already, as they succeeded at getting a lot of audience.

5. Personal Response

  • I believe that this ad was hilarious, it has stuck in my head since I've watched it. Although, the company didn't really show what their product was until the end of the ad so it was slightly confusing.

Title of the Advertisement: Cadbury Gorilla Drum

Brand/Product: Cadbury chocolate

Duration of the Advertisement: 1.30

Brief Overview/Summary:

1. Target Audience

  • younger audience (age 7-20)

  • both genders, although it leans more towards the male audience due to the song choice

  • people who are interested in gorillas and drums

2. Message and Purpose

  • they used purple and yellow (Cadbury's signature colors) on the wall during the gorilla scene.
  • when the gorilla was playing the drums, it seemed very confident and cool.

3. Meaning and Interpretation

  • The purpose of the ad is to appeal to a new audience which at that time, Cadbury's customers consisted of mostly older people. By using the drum playing gorilla, Cadbury is able to reach the younger audience as young boys would be interested to see gorillas playing drums.

4. Effectiveness

  • This ad and its humor technique was very effective as Cadbury's chocolate sales rocketed due to the release of that ad.

5. Personal Response

  • The Cadbury Gorilla ad was very funny in my opinion, it was very out of context, but it stuck in my head.

Title of the Advertisement: Barbie So In Style Doll Commercial

Brand/Product: Barbie dolls

Duration of the Advertisement: 0.30

Brief Overview/Summary:

1. Target Audience

  • young minority girls (age 7-15)

2. Message and Purpose

  • new attractive accessories such as the earrings

  • new attributes such as hairspray, blowdryer, etc.

  • catchy uplifting song that a young girl typically listens to

3. Meaning and Interpretation

  • the ad shows new barbie dolls, where they were of color. This creates a wider diversity and makes their product more inclusive as the typical barbie would usually be blonde and white.

4. Effectiveness

  • They used bright and "feminine" colors such as pink, for the color scheme. The color itself attracts the audience (young girls) already. Compared to if they used colors such as blue, green, or black, younger girls would be more appealed by the colors that they have used.

5. Personal Response

  • I think that the ad was alright, it is attractive if watched by their target audience (which I'm not), therefore I'm not interested in buying their product.

Title of the Advertisement: Jangan Stres, Rilek Jap Bersama KitKat

Brand/Product: Kit Kat

Duration of the Advertisement: 0.35

Brief Overview/Summary:

1. Target Audience

  • People who are interested in video games or movies such as "Game of Thrones" that include knights and castles

  • age can vary from 15-20

  • gender of target audience would most likely be male, since not many women and girls like watching knights and playing video games.

2. Message and Purpose

  • setting is outside a castle, with people dressed up as knights

3. Meaning and Interpretation

  • By using the setting thats a big castle, a horse, and knights. Kit Kat plans to reach a wider range of audience.

4. Effectiveness

  • Kit Kat uses humor to attract their audience

  • The video was viewed by 13M people, but only liked by 45 people, this shows that although the ad did reach lots of audience, it wasn't as effective.

5. Personal Response

  • I believe that this ad wasn't really that funny as it intends to be. Perhaps because it was a Malaysian joke, which I didn't quite understand.

Title of the Advertisement: At Jetex, every passenger matters. Discover the world of endless possibilities.

Brand/Product: Kit Kat

Duration of the Advertisement: 1.10

Brief Overview/Summary:

1. Target Audience

  • People who own pets (specifically dogs) and likes to travel

  • People who loves their pet and likes travelling around with them

  • As Jetex is a private jet company, their customers must be people with high income.

2. Message and Purpose

  • At the beginning of the ad, you could see that the Jetex staff were all smiling, this shows that the staff there are warm and nice.

  • When the dog enters the facility, you can see a bed and balloons provided just for it. The purpose of this is to show that Jetex is very welcoming.

  • Jetex used a dog as a prop for the ad and treated it as if it were their customer (good service). This shows that they will not only value their human customers but also the pets.

  • In order to show that they are a high class business, they used luxury items such as a Coach bag and a Bugatti car.

  • In a clip, a staff helps to put on tags on the baggages, this shows that they are willing to help their customers.

  • The staff carries the dog to the jet very gently, showing that they care about it.

  • They used their brand's signature colors on their ad in order to make it more personalized and unique.

3. Meaning and Interpretation

  • What can be interpreted from the details that Jetex have included in their ad is that they are a very welcoming pet-friendly private jet company that respects all their customers equally, no matter what they are, "Every passenger matters."

4. Effectiveness

  • This ad reached 1.5M views and received positive comments from people. some people even had a change of heart ("@juanjoseostos9325 6 months ago i love jetex now", this means that Jetex had successfully attracted viewers. By reaching lots of audience, although not many will even use their service as they are a luxury brand, they can reach more people who can afford their product due to the amount of views they have (higher percentage).

  • Jetex also used hashtags on their description such as #luxurytravel and #pettravel, which also helps reach a more specific audience.

5. Personal Response

  • I personally love animals a lot, and as I was looking for ads to analyse, I saw this Jetex ad which had a dog wearing an orange bowtie as the thumbnail. This alone grabbed my attention already, as I clicked on the video to further look into it, I thought that they did really well in personalizing their product by using their brand color everywhere. I was very interested in the ad and thought that it was very cute. If I had the money to go on that private jet and bring my dogs with me, I would. In addition, since not many flying transport companies, even private jet companies are pet-friendly, I think this could be their unique selling point, therefore attracting customers even more.

This is my self reflection for the research

6. Self reflection
  • After some research, I decided to do another product as I feel like Jetex has already reached a different target audience in the ad and I wanted to look for a product with a more niche target audience, which is why I changed to Cartier's Love bracelet. Cartier usually targets middle aged women who are usually not married. In addition, I found it pretty easy to analyse the ads, but I found a difficulty in trying to put my analysis into words, but I still managed. I did get slightly confused on some parts but after some practice, I got the hang of it.
